The Rome Spangles girls' basketball program was initiated in the fall of 2000 and is beginning its 8th season this year. Under the leadership of Tommy Nelson, who has been coaching in the area for the past 25 years, the program has grown from 1 initial 12U team in its first year to 5 teams strong with players ranging from 9U to 17U in age.

The Spangles program strives to build upon the principles of AAU, giving young players the opportunity to take a meaningful learning step in and through basketball. Towards this end, the objective is to provide a positive competitive environment from which to develop qualities such as character, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and athletic excellence. Our coaches are committed to promoting these ideals while teaching girls the fundamentals of basketball and developing and improving their individual and team basketball skills.

Spangle Basketball is committed to providing the opportunity to play with and against the highest levels of competition. While the goal is to compete at the highest level, tournaments are carefully selected to best match the skill levels of our teams. Doing so provides the best opportunity to foster a positive learning experience in a positive environment.

In order to provide the positive environment embodied above, our players, coaches, and parents must each embrace certain ideals and responsibilities. We call this the Spangle Basketball Game plan. To see the Spangle Game Plan click below.
